1. Language of definitions
For a user to get more information, the meaning of a word can be defined in many languages.
In the search results we include following definitions:
  • definitions in the language the word is taken from (e.g. we always display English definition of English words)
  • definitions in the language of the page opened (e.g. if you find some French words you will get their definitions in French and English)
2. Definition editing
Depending on the language of edited definition and the language the word belongs to, 3 or 4 text boxes are displayed for each definition:
  • meaning - definition of the word’s meaning
  • usage notes - information about the word’s use for the particular meaning
  • example - an example sentence illustrating the word’s use for the particular meaning
  • example translation - the example translated into the language of the definition
The ‘example translation’ box is displayed only when the language used for editing is different from the language of the word’s origin.
3. Usage notes
Here, all information about the word’s use for the specified meaning should be included.
If you are not sure as to how to complete the field, simply don’t. Most words don't need it.
4. Approving proposed definitions
All editing needs to be accepted by our experts.
The data that have not received their approval will be displayed with a special note informing about their status.
All data remain unaltered until our moderators accept the changes, so please be patient.
